2.2. mln passengers traveled through Rinas Airport in 2016
Tirana’s Mother Teresa Airport exceeded in 2016 the figure of 2 million passengers for the first time in its history.
According to data from Anna Aero and OAG, airport traffic grew by 9.9 per cent compared with the figure of 1.99 million passengers last year.
The figure for 2016 reached the level of 2.2 million passengers, influenced most by increases in travels over the last year, a trend which continued in 2017, with an increase of 28.6%.
Flights from and to Rome’s Fiumicino airport account for almost 14% of all traffic with over 300 thousand passengers.
Other destinations with high flows of passengers are Milano’s Malpensa (209 thousand) and Istanbul’s airport (203 thousand) and Vienna’s airport (159 thousand).
Flights to Frankfurt, although just 75 thousand, have the largest increase with 197 percent compared to 2015, while flights to Venice airport have the largest decline, at 19.6%.
As far as travel companies are concerned, Albanians prefer those that offer low-cost travel.
